Hospital de la Fraternidad exists to provide quality healthcare to the population of Chinguetti and the surrounding region, regardless of race, religion, gender, or financial status.
Vision
Hospital de la Fraternidad will serve as a model for a sustainable community hospital, offering quality services at affordable prices, promoting staff development and community education, and working with the community and partner NGOs to continuously improve the level of care in order to meet international standards.

Hospital de la Fraternidad is a nonprofit community hospital founded in 2003 through the collaboration of Foundation Chinguetti (Spain), the Commune of Chinguetti, and the Ministry of Health of Mauritania. Since 2024, the responsibility of the hospital’s operations and governance has been entrusted to HOME and TotalCare Foundation, two American nonprofit organizations, in continued partnership with the Ministry of Health of Mauritania.
The hospital gratefully recognizes the enduring friendship, vision, and counsel of Mr. Alfonso Torres, President of Foundation Chinguetti (Spain), and Mr. Mohamed Amara, former Mayor of Chinguetti, whose leadership was instrumental in the hospital’s founding and whose ongoing advice and support continue to be valued.
